Duplex Remodel

The purpose of this duplex remodel is to modernize and refresh the home to make it a clean, vibrant, attractive and charming space that will be easy to maintain and rent as an Airbnb.

My Brother-in-law was offered a deal on this duplex that he couldn’t refuse. The home was originally a rental, that needed some TLC. As we chatted about a plan he wanted to make it a space that he could rent out as an Airbnb. Airbnb’s are unique in the fact that clients are looking for all the comforts of home while being on the road. To do this we wanted to brighten up the space, add soothing paint colors, and a little bling.

10 Things to Consider when Designing an Airbnb

• Plan the spaces with the guest in mind. What is bringing them to this specific area, are they single, a couple, or a family.
• Guest want to have an experience. Design the space to be comfortable but exciting.
• The layout of the space should have good traffic flow, and be user-friendly.
• Pick a theme or use an inspiration piece from the community that represents that town.
• Pick a color pallet in the same color tones that work together. Make rooms different but cohesive.
• Make sure the space is safe. Such as non-slip flooring in the areas where water is plentiful, such as bathrooms, and kitchen.
• Use fun, unexpected accent pieces for that “wow” factor.
• Don’t be afraid to go bold with art, wall coverings, or lighting fixtures.
• Utilize small spaces to their fullness.
• Elevate the space by layering your lighting: highlight artwork with wall washers, lamps for bedside reading or reading nooks, dimmable chandeliers for mood settings, and wall sconces for lighting entries, hallways and stairs.
